Costco isn't selling the extremes for $30. they are the scandisk ultra 30MB/S* 8gb for $30. Plus you get 100 free prints with every one you buy.

They are the same speeds as the extreme IIIs

Oops- Didn't see this-
He's right, it's actually the ULTRA which is the same as the Extreme III now

I've shot several lacrosse games with the new 8gb 30mb/s ultras in my 7d (jpeg L) and have had not problem with them, done a handful of quick RAW bursts too. I haven't found a reason to need a faster card yet, although if I was shooting full games in RAW I may be more inclined to get some faster ones.

When I took my 7D out for its first game, I realized quickly that I had cut my memory card capacity almost in half. 8gb is not enough if you plan to shoot a lot. I bought two 16 gb 400X Transcend cards form NewEgg for $62 each. I have tested them in both the 7D and the 1D mK3 and both are working with no problem.

I did a quick test with the MK3. Just adjusted the ISO up to where SS was over 1000, then pressed and held the shutter while focusing on the patio curtain. I ran off 34 consecutive images at 8 fps before the buffer filled and the camera shut down for about 15 seconds until the light went out. NOTE: I have the fps cut back to 8 instead of 10 because I was burning up too many images that looked almost alike. And I still miss the ball on the bat. :-(

Edit: And just to add, I also have a Sandisk Ultra 30mb/sec card and it works just fine in both of my cameras j ust like the Extreme III card.

Long and short... If you plan on doing photography as a semi-pro or pro please listen to me very carefully. Purchasing the cheaper cards is all well and good but they don't hold up under the demanding conditions... worst of it all, usually you'll loose pics at some point or another during the life of a cheap CF card - usually not recoverable. So I suggest that if you consider the pictures or shooting you do as something you would not want to loose on a whim (say babies first steps, or someone who hired you) then I highly suggest not skimping out.
