I've decided that I have given WAY to much thought to my gear and not enough to the actual photos. It's fun to read up on the last Mk VIII whatever... but I think it's actually making photography 'sterile' for me.

So, my mission:

For all of April 2010 (with the exception of paid gigs) I am only going to shoot with my Rebel and 50mm 1.8. No flash, no rigs, no L glass, no other fancy crap. Just one camera, one focal length. And also, I will only be working in B&W, just like when I worked with film. I will also take the camera with me EVERYWHERE I can. I'm no longer leaving it at home because of 'all that extra weight'.

I'm hoping that it will inspire me to be more creative, and get some better shots with less 'fiddling' with the camera. Time to actually be the artist I know that I have in me.

And for April 1st, here is my first one:

Thats a good idea. Over the winter I spend way too much time on the internet, now the nice weather is here so no excuses!

Winter is the time of studio lighting projects, and even hot lights are useful when it is 20F degrees outside.

Great idea. I've been looking for something to jump start my creative thinking and this just might be the answer. Mind if I join in? ;)

I kinda like my EP-2 for this kind of thing. I have just a couple old Canon FD lenses I stick on it. Its fun to go make something happen with it.

Wait...there's a MK VIII out?
Where? Where? Where?

My gear merely enhances my photography. It doesn't define it. If you personally feel your preoccupation with gear is affecting your "artistic" side of the equation, then perhaps what you are doing is helpful.

Good luck.

What's not simple about any Rebel? I'm only using manual, and never auto ISO.
