Had a 50D and I'm sure the LCD turned off when you lifted the camera to your eye. The 5D/2 doesn't turn off. Have I missed something, can't find anything in the manual.

The review that comes up after a shot will just time out on it's own. How long that takes is based on one of the Cf settings. Sorry, but don't remember which Cf it is off the top of my head.

The review that you call up yourself with the ">" button doesn't time out. That one can be shut off by pressing the ">" button again.

Either way that you get the review on the LCD, it should shut off when you press the shutter release 1/2 way down.

Thanks very much for your replies, must have been thinking of the 450D that I had.

Interesting though that the Rebels have those proximity thingamajigs but our 5D2s and 7Ds don't.

It's because the Rebels don't have a top LCD. They display all their settings on the rear LCD (which I actually liked a lot), so that if you change a setting and the rear screen is lit up, as you raise it to your eye the LCD shuts off (except on the XS/1000D, which doesn't have the sensor).
