While purchasing my new 50D, the salesman, who had already been informed that this wasn't my first Canon, starting dissing Canons in general. He went on and on about how Nikon's flash and auto focus are superior to Canon. I had it in mind to rip him a new one, but I was so happy with my new toy, I wasn't about to let him rain on my parade. I was wondering how the rest of you would have handled this clown?

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

Just saying "I know what I want to buy, let me buy it".

Any further comments would have resulted in me walking out of the shop.

I can't say I have ever met any that were too silly. It also might be that I just don't give a hoot what brand is on my camera. haha. But the Nikon/Olympus/Sony/whatever shooters I have met are all usually polite. Of course, him being a "camera salesman" might have been what gave him the feeling of superiority. Like a guy at a record shop or something. lol

When I was trying to figure out which digital system to go with, Canon or Nikon, the guy who owns a camera store up here was the one who convinced me to go Canon....and he shot Nikon.

Flash IS superior, my cousin can control the SB-600 with his D200. I have to buy an ST-E2 or get a 7D for the same thing that he could do back in 2005. :(

I would have asked him nicely exactly how he would plan to use the existing 17-55 EF-s, 100-400, 100 Macro, and 24-105 on his beloved Nikon body. At that point if he would have recommended to sell and switch I would then talk to a manager.

When I know what I want, I don't want to try and be sold on anything, so when I walk in and ask to buy a 50D and try to get sold something else, I will leave.

Just yesterday I walked into Don's to get some things needed for this long weekend and they asked no questions, boxed up what I wanted and then helped my carry the stuff to my van. Had they started grilling me on why or trying to get me to buy something different, I would have walked out and they would have lost a $6000 sale.

Why yes, I am a jerk. Thank you for asking.

The most devastating thing you could have done to him was to return the sale and tell his manager that he was responsible for losing a paying customer.

But I think this was your fault in the first place to listen to a recommendation on what to buy from a salesman. They obviously always have your best interests in mind have no hidden agendas at all....

I would not have purchased from him. I'd have said "You are right. I guess I won't by this junk from you.' and then I'd have left.

The guy seems ill suited to work in sales, doesn't he? If I'm a salesman than I'm not going to say bad things about what my customer is contemplating purchasing.
