So, I still have yet to decide on the 7d or 50d for my new camera (really, really leaning towards 7d) but I heard that there's quite a bit of weatherproofing material on the 7d. Will my EF lenses still fit?

Oh, and if anyone has any input on their new 7ds vs a 50d, I'm all ears. Thanks!!

all crop body Canon EOS DSLRs will accept EF and EF-S lenses. the 7D is a crop body camera and will accept your EF lenses no problem.

and i do have both cameras. what kind of input did you want? :D

Canon 7D / 50D / 30D / SL1 / XT

Except for the 10D, it will onlt accept a EF mount lens but thats not in question here. I'm just picking nits.

Yes, EF/EF-S all fit. It's a cropped camera. You might be mistaken it with 5D/1D

If you undecided between the two gook luck. I have both the 7D and the 50D as my backup though I must admit, the poor 50D has been sitting in the bag got a long time. But it really comes down to two big factors and a bunch of little ones. How important is cost and how important is video. Those two alone can make the decision for you. All the other features, though better on the 7D are not that much better with maybe the exception of the AF. The 7D af smokes the 50D but the 50D is no slouch so I put it in the minor feature category.

So all around performance + video = 7D
Excellent performance and much lower cost = 50D

Agreed. I went from a 50D to a 7D and while I love the 7D I did it more because I wanted to do it and not because I needed to. It all comes down to if you want to spend the extra cash. Only you can decide if it's actually worth it to you. There will be plenty of people in both camps, but your wallet and shooting needs should be the ultimate deciding factor. For example, for some the video capability is a huge deal but for me it wasn't even a consideration. My reasons were the speed of the camera and the totality of the "smaller" improvements. It all added up to what I wanted so I went for it. Either way, you will have a good camera.

Hi, everyone! Thanks for all of the answers and advice.

I do shoot video here and there. It's not my main thing, but I would use it. For the most part, I photograph action in very crappy conditions (in the snow, in the motocross dirt track, and in the dust at Burning Man), and I also love landscape photography. I haven't bought a new camera in 7 years, so spending a little bit more money is fine with me, because I know I'll use it until it's on its last leg, just like my 300D is.

Since money isn't a major issue for you, go for that 7D!
