Really simple flash test

Thought some people like me who rarely use or are new to flash might find this interesting.

I like to shoot "natural light" whenever possible (yea, I realize that many people here might not like that) but that's often what I like.

But, I really need to learn to use flash (and off camera lighting) more effectively.

I just don't want my photos to scream "flash!!".

Here's a really simple test that I did and I must admit that I'm surprised at how "natural" the flash shot looks as compared to natural light.



430 EX with Stofen diffuser and Proquest mini-softbox on top of that (bounced), camera/flash shot manual vs "natural light".....

Michael,
Using indirect flash is essentially the same as using available ambient light.

The goal is to use "controlled light" in such a way as to create the image a photographer wants.

There are subtle differences, but they have more to do with the flash being more uniform foreground to background than the ambient light. And even that can be controlled by careful selection of bounce angle etc.

It is a benefit to have controllable light in your tool kit.
