We were at the zoo today and it was a madhouse. They were doing their zoo easter egg celebration for the animals. I didn't want to use the hood because there just wasn't enough room. I was hard-pressed to use the 300. Anyway, I was in the process of moving the camera strap to my shoulder when this guy bumped into me. Down it went. The lens hit the rim around the top of the lens on the ground. I was pissed, obviously. Here's the pics. These were taken w/ my Droid.

OUCH!@#$

It always seem like when you go out of your way to stand in the corner or an isolated spot to change lenses etc. there's always that one douche that walks by.

I was shooting after work in NYC. Obviously it was crowded. Every time I wanted to switch lenses, I would find an isolated spot, and begin the switch, only to realize there's always that douche who comes a little too close for comfort.

While nothing would make me happier than making that guy tiger how, it was just as much my fault as his. I was trying to get out of the way for other people to see, I was rushing. I carry insurance for just such accidents. I'm going to check on getting it fixed, but the injury doesn't affect IQ at all and the hood mounts just fine. Let this serve as a warning to others to be careful. Anything can happen at anytime. BTW, I'm a sick individual and would have to use this very 300 for the mauling that guy would get in the tiger cage. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Man, sorry to hear and see that Kevin...it's a sick feeling!

If it works fine, then I think you can use it like that instead of claim insurance and give them a chance to raise the premium. That's what the hood is for. Just wrap some tape on it and mark it down as battle scar. A few years later when your kids ask you about just start the story with, "You know back in 'Nam..." hahaha :D

Ouch, that picture made me cringe. I couldn't imagine the feeling that I would have if my 300L fell like that!

Apparently I've been dubbed Foxy.

if performance is unaffected and the hood still goes on fine then be on with your day. you should see some of my lenses, ive purposely cut peices out of them with a dremel in order to remove filter ring damage.

war wounds as i like to call them. they make for a great story with fellow photogs.

Sorry to hear about your lens, makes me glad I wear my cotton carrier so stuff like this doesn't happen.
