What do you use? I've considered just clamping the light to my background stand, because a boom stand seems excessive and I don't want to carry around another stand (my setup is portable). So how do you light the background?

I should have been more specific. I'm looking for something that I can use as a background light that I don't have to use the subject to hide the stand itself. Right now I'm doing mostly children, so a boom stand is easily tipped over and a small tripod is too small to hide behind a child. That's the basic situation I'm looking for a solution for.
