Or, to be slightly more helpful, PPA is a great resource. You have to sign up, but there are very good sample forms that can be customized to your needs. http://www.ppa.com/ (external link)

Check out Business and Legal Forms for Photographers by Tad Crawford, Copublished with the ASMP. It has the forms with detailed explanations on use. Each form in the book is also on an included CD, in MS Word and other formats for easy editing.

Oops redid my navigation bar recently and it was not Firefox friendly. It should all be working now. Let me know if there is any problem.

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction with this thread. If I am passing the rights to a client so they can print the photos anywhere they want, what is that type of release called and where can I see a sample to create my own. I believe it would be different than a model release. I am new at this and any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That should be a copyright release. I don't have an example of that but just google photography copyright release and see what you come up with. I am no pro at this either but came up with my forms after some research and modifing them to fit my needs.

There's a difference between a "Copyright Transfer" and a "License of Rights" With a Copyright Transfer, you basically give away the copyright. With the License of Rights, you spell out which rights the person has and also the time frame.

Be careful that you don't give away all rights. It wouldn't be good if the person were able to sell your work.

I’m working on the launch of Stockphotorights.com, a new educational resource which aims to unravel the complexities and expose the potential legal pitfalls of image use, and thought the site would be of interest to the people here. Stockphotorights.com has been set up by Getty Images with the support of BAPLA and PACA and provides a simple, user-friendly, one-stop shop for anyone wishing to learn more about licensing stock imagery for commercial use.
