Well, I just did it, I pulled the trigger. :) I bought the 20D, along with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, a Canon 55-200mm telephoto, a nice Epson photo printer, and an underwater housing for my G5. This is all mainly for my upcoming vacation in Florida next month, plus, this was the last week for the Canon rebate on the 20D. Hopefully, it will be here by Friday and I can play with it this weekend. I am giddy with anticipation – I cannot wait for it to get here!!!

So I continue to travel down the spiral - in April of 2004 I bought my G5. A few months later I proceeded to buy two conversion lenses, an extra battery, two cases, a took a photography course and have bought numerous books, and now I am thinking about the 20D and a good printer. I'm sure soon I will want a 400mm zoom lens, a nice fast 1.4 50mm lens, a nice wide angle, a fisheye lens, more photography classes, a better tripod, and then I'll need a film camera too, and by that time, the 30D or 40D will be out, and I will want that as well. Why couldn't I pick a less expensive hobby?? But, the way I look at it, it's a lifetime hobby, and a good way to historically document things that happen in life.

Do you have any pics taken with your 50mm? I'm also looking into it but not sure if it's better than the 18-55mm kit lens....

Thanks....

Well, I just ordered everything and I'm hoping it will be in my hands this weekend. I will take some photos and post them here when I do get it.

Well, I have been contemplating the decision for what seems like a long time. I looked at my finances (it also helps being single and having a good career), set a budget, and bought what I thought would be the most useful set up to me for now.

I do truly enjoy photography, and I felt like I was outgrowing my G5 (which is still a great camera). Some of the sports photos and wedding shots that I took recently did not turn out as well as I would have liked due to shutter lag and autofocus issues. The last thing I wanted was to go on vacation again and feel like I missed a shot, and kick myself because I held back from buying a new camera until next time. When will I have another chance to visit the Florida Keys?

I did allow myself a few weeks to learn the camera - vacation isn't until mid-August.

Does my path seem about right or is it noticeably quicker than most people's?

The 50mm f1/.8 will definately be better than the kit lens at 50mm... especially once you stop it down a bit.

If you have a look at my gallery ( link in sig ), all the recent shots ( since the 11th) are all taken with the 20D + 50mm 1.8.
