hi all
as it says i have the chance to upgrade to a 1dmk3 and am interested to know of your experiences of this body for wedding use.

i currently shoot with a 1dsmk2 and 1dmk2
but you know how it is :) we are all suckers for a good bargain and upgrade and while i cannot extend to a 1dmk4 and would not consider a 5dmk2 as i love the feel of the 1d, the mk3 seems to offer something over my current 1dmk2.

as i have never used the mk3 how superior is it to the mk2, and would you be inclined to make the change - bearing in mind my mk2 owes me nothing.
i do know there isnt a great deal of difference in resolution, but is the low light/noise performance much better real world ???

cheers

If you feel limited by the ISO on your MKII, upgrade. The ISO capabilities of the MKIII are much better :)

How much would it cost you to upgrade?

I just purchased my MKIII a couple months ago and I love it!

Recently, I was considering getting a 1DsMII as my companion body for my MKIII for this season.

Just note that some of your favourite focal lengths may go out of whack with the new 1.3x crop factor.

Solid build quality. Great burst rate. On par with 5D noise. I see no wrongs.

I think the OP already has a 1D2, which if I recall correctly is a 1.3x too..

Ever so happy with my 1D classic

That is correct.

I have a 1D Mk IIn, Mk III and a 5D Mk II. The noise improvement of the III over the IIn is easily a full stop and I would say the 5D Mk II is close to a full stop better than the Mk III.

The only thing to be careful with regarding the Mk III is that the AF problems people have mentioned in the past are very real on some bodies. I went through three before I got one that worked more like I expected.

If you do not have an opportunity to test out the body or be able to return it if it does not perform up to your expectations I would be very leery of purchasing it. Great ISO performance is not much good if the images are OOF. When you get a good one, it is a great camera.

But now with FF, everything will be 1.3x.

Personally, I found my favourite 50mm to be useless at 1.3x and I only had the single body back then. With much sadness, I traded the 1DMK3 for a 5D + lens or something or rather.

1D series AF kicks absolute ass.

I was talking to CPS recently, they suggested the 5D2 is a better choice for a wedding photographer than a 1D4. I forget exactly why, but full frame had something to do with it.

hi guys
thanks for the responses. i have decided to hang fire and keep hold of my trusty mk2 and not change for changes sake. i have decided i have been very happy with its performance and instead am putting the money toward a fast wide prime.

one big thing was the menu layout and buttons etc are all the same as my 1dsmk2 so for ease i am keen to retain what i am used to for speed and ease.
