why don't people lower cars in america? :S (sorry to stereotype) that thing's sitting up like a boat

in aust, if you have a car and u want to make it good. first 3 things have to be - lower it (alot!) - big rims - loud exhaust.

but ofcourse, if it's an 8, you touch the engine before anything being munched by a 4cyc in your LS1 5.7ltr is criminal.

To keep from tearing the cars underside up. We have a lot of pot holes, speed bumps, & dips in the roads here.
One run over a speed bump or dip in the road with a drastically lowered street car, and your collectors become flattened and non functional, and you'll see why we like a little clearance for a real world street machine that is used for a daily driver as well.

When I had my 78 Trans Am, it sat pretty low, and I had to not only go slow over speed bumps, but go over them at a diagonal angle to keep the headers from scraping. Admittedly, my TA sat quite a bit lower than this Duster though.

i'll admit, i go diagonally over speed humps, and i try to avoid some large holes, but in the 'burbs of melbourne, our roads are fairly new.

heres a example of what your car should look like if you're an enthusiast in melbourne.

first one is a mate jame's VS Spack, sitting low with compressed king spring Superlows and low riding shocks on 19" GTS rim's

the second is dan's VS senator, which has air bag suspension and concept 5 rims (i tihnk, or FR-18's) half way through his engine swap. (355ci)

Half of it looks low enough!

Nice shots, frank, though I think the red paint on the valve covers & water pump clashes with the fluorescent green.

MattyB, big rims and low profile tires are just another fad that will eventually go the way of the car bra.

Curtis: yeah, well it's gone from white walls - to deep dish, to 5 spoke rims - and now big rims with low profile tyres.
i'm predicting the next will be even bigger rtims, but monster faced chrome ones.

Bruce: depends really, most of them are a bit stiff in the arse, as for 'twistys' (winding roads) handling, i wouldn't... haha.
air bags = cruiser.
AU$3000 dollar suspension setup = twisties king.

Ah, I suspected as much. IMHO, airbag suspension would be somewhat unpredictable.
