that's a good shot. The 'very soft' comment is silly. His eye lashes are distinguishable from each other.
Thanks Plasticmotif, it's one of my favorite shots that I've taken with the 85LII.

This shot if anything has a "look" to it that razor sharpness wouldn't necessarily improve. If I was that couple I would love having that shot. You can't forget that most customers aren't going to debate the focus point. They just like the picture. Nice work. I think the missed focus isn't even noticeable, if you hadn't mentioned it. www.dKweddings.net

I'm in the same boat. That's why I created this thread; so I could get motivation to use it at f/1.2. So far the shots posted here are really awesome! www.dKweddings.net

I actually feel like photos really lose something when the background is so smooth and "creamy" that all sense of depth is lost. Because of this, I've begun to reserve this kind of wide open super shallow DOF shooting to situations where all the background structures are very close and crowded, so that you'll still see a transition of focus. Otherwise, the subject is just so isolated from the background that you may as well have photoshopped them into the picture. Outside, when the background is more distant (or has a range of distances), I tend to stop down more (to f/2.2 or so). While lenses with more "graphic" bokeh are generally less well-regarded here, they actually solve this problem.
it also depends on how far your subject is from the background. Here it is at 2.2 but the subject it a pretty far from anything which worked out great for the ad.
