Does the 5DIII nail focus with this lens on the autofocus points other than centre?
I'm guessing the 6D can't, or am I wrong?

Focusing on the 5D3 with all cross points work fine -- the center since it's double cross is probably a little more accurate. With the 6D, I typically have to stick with the center so I don't use this lens on the 6D very often.

^I have owned both the 5D III and 6D, now only have the 6D. I use all of the AF points on the 6D, including the 85 L II. If it is very dark, then yes, the center point is the answer, but with typical lighting for portraits, no problem.

Define very dark, you mean golden hour? Or when the sun has set?

Hmm I was just thinking out loud inside my own head (nice huh :P) and I realized something.. This lens was brought into the market when the Canon 5Dc was the top of the bill... And even then the third rule was a norm back then as well.. So I kinda answered my own question, stop having GAS and start learning how to shoot...
