Not seen these on POTN before so I thought I'd share. Basically take a clear container of water, place it on top of some holographic wrapping paper, pour in some olive oil, stir it around and start snapping. All shots at around 3x magnifcation, off camera flash in various positions to get the varying colours:

No setup up shot as I only have 1 camera (the horror!!). Basically take a clear container, put an inch or two of water in it and place the container on top of a piece holographic wrapping paper / card. Pour a few drops of olive oil onto the surface of the water and stir to break the blobs up into smaller sized blobs. Camera mounted lens down on tripod facing directly at the waters surface and off camera flash (various angles / positions give differnt colours / hues).

Any macro lens but the higher the magnification the better, I used to use a Raynox DCR250 at 2.5x but I now have a MPe-65 and these were at about 3x mag but I've seen great results at 1:1

Very nice shots. I suppose DOF isn't much of a problem? :)

Top down, make sure your tripod head locks solidly ;)

Wild stuff man! Thanks for posting these and all your techniques used. I may have to give this a try sometime. What f-stop are you shooting these at?
