Ruddy Duck in Breeding Plumage

I'm always amazed at how pale blue the male Ruddy Duck's bill gets during mating season. It seems to go from drab gray to this color very quickly and the plumage turns a rusty red.

Good shots, Miles. I like those ruddy ducks. I've only seen them in one place here, and the lake is large enough to allow them to keep away from us humans.

Great shots of the Ruddys... I seen several over the weekend Saturday but very far out no shot opportunities, they certainly are beautiful when they go into there breeding plumage.
