Last saturday night, in a really small venue and with kick-ass opening bands (Crowbar was excellent).

It's my fist go at concerts, maybe you have some hints for me?

7D and sigma 70-200 2.8

Cheers

knozz - I am familiar of the 1/focal length rule, but if i'd have sticked with that all my photos would have been either severely underexposed or shot at smaller focal lengths - the latter hardly appropriate as I was far back and up, among the light guys.

pcunite - the aim of the exercise was not to produce identification records for the guitarist of sepultura (Andreas Kisser, half german half yugoslavian, 41 years old, likes icecream, poneys and unicorns, listens to Alizée), but to get him *in action* :)

I've noticed something interesting - and I'm speaking in general. Professional photographers tend to be less picky about the minute technicalities of the shot (like noise) than ultra-informed amateurs... of all the places I've published my photos in, few are those requesting pictures larger than 800 x 600 (for web of course, not paper prints).

It does. Even "H" (12800) is acceptable if you shoot raw, play with the file in lightroom and reduce it in size.

Had it set on manual, 2.8, auto ISO and played with exposure. Was surprised to see it rarely went over 1600.

Were they cropped? They seem way to noisy for them to be the originals. I shoot ISO1600 on my 40D and there's less noise. It would explain some of the softness.

Agree that a faster shutterspeed would have helped.
In general, for PA, IMO auto anything rarely produces good results without user input (EC for instance). These images could have been exposed better IMO.

First would have been nice if it weren't so soft and the face were brighter.
Second is framed a bit weird and is not too interesting IMO.

@lamyxine: Il résiste bien à la pluie, un peu de bière + sueur de métalleux ne va pas l'abimer lol :)

@réné: noise in the first shot is largely due to post processing, could have kept it down but I really don't mind it. Exposure can be improved, agree on that
