This a new one for me and also a most fascinating bird to watch. They often use their wings to form an umbrella so they can see fish more easily. They also contort themselves in bizarre patterns as they move around quickly looking for fish. Its a dance like no other bird does.

Excellent shooting Scott! You captured the behavior of this egret very well. I've never seen this "fishing dance" in action before.

Excellent captures. This is a species that I was looking for in Florida but failed to see.

Good shots, they are the most active feeders of all the egrets I think. The rest
of the species seems to thrive on patience. This guy has no patience at all.

again, really nice shots.

Thanks Dan, these were taken on Bio Mass Road on Merritt Island. We saw a few but not a lot of them.

Thanks Gary....you think they would disturb the fish but they seems to be successful on most attempts.

Wonderful shots Scott......they're top of the line entertainers when they start their fishing dance.

I think it's incredibly smart of them to create shade over the water so the fish is visible. You've done a wondeful job on these Scott. I'm happy you managed to see them.

Way to go, Scott. Great series. I've never had one of these in my sights. I'll just have to enjoy them through your great images. :)
