lately ive been lusting the 35L. been reading up on it and it gets awesome reviews. is the 35L a good replacement for the 24-70L? im thinking later down the road to pick up the 24-105L for the zoom versatility. i love the 24-70L a lot and takes sharp pictures, but a prime lens is much more sexier.

i will mainly be shooting weddings/portraits/models/headshots/events/parties/various casual outtings.

i already have tam 17-35 f2.8-4, 70-200L f4IS, and 85 1.8.

is this a good route to go?

I find zooms irreplaceable for events, but whatever works for you.

I sold my 28-70L to get a 35L and I think it was a great move :)

Yes!

Thanks David, i see you have both, 35L and 24-70L. which do you prefer? if i can afford both, id definitely keep the 24-70L and pick up the 35L. but if its one or the other, which do you use more?

I have both on a 1.3 crop body, 35L and 24-70L, and the 35L is no replacement... very sad I know. Get the 35L and 85 1.8 or the 1.2 if you want to toss the 24-70L in the trash. 35 is just not long enough for some tasks.

The 35L by far, the 24-70 will be up for sale by this weekend to help pay for other equipment.

^ He also has a 5D and it looks like you have a 1D so I would recommend the 24-70. 35mm is not really that wide on a 1D. I used it a bit and its fast and sharp but not wide. 24mm is much much wider.

24-70mm is an ideal range for me and f/2.8 is plenty fast for my needs. If I needed a faster lens the 35L would be one I would want.

sell the 24-70 and get a used 35L and put in a bit more and get a tamron 28-75mm if you ever need a zoom.

i was going to do this. but since i got the 35L i never really needed a zoom yet so i havent picked up a tamron yet... might not need it

yea i realize he has a 5d.

i did mention in my OP i would pick up at 24-105 to pick up the rest of the range. 35L would be indoor lowlight work, 24-105 would be outdoor, walk around lens. i know the 35 isnt wide on a 1d, but its much better than a 50mm. 35mm makes it a 45.5mm in FF.

thats my plan.... skip the 24-70L and just get the 35L and if i need a zoom to cover that range then ill just get the tamron 28-75mm.
