I currently own a 430EX and just ordered an RF-602 with 2 receivers, YN-460 flash, Impact lightstand and hot shoe swivel mount clamp.

So from there I guess it comes down to lighting modifiers, and thats where Im stumped. I dont plan to do any real heavy shooting, this is mostly for my family and I dont have a designated studio area or anything. Most of the time while Im using it I will be either in the living room or possibly outside. Ive gotten by pretty well with just bounced flash and started using gels for light balance. I dont have room for a white seamless setup. I might use this stuff 1-2 times a month tops (Or get addicted and take over the living room!).

I dont really have a budget. I would prefer not to spend much more than $300 total, and so far Ive got about $150 spent if you round down ;)

I ordered similar items and will be ordering the impact lightstand set. Do you have a link to the hot shoe swivel mount clamp?

The Speedlite ProKit modifiers (external link)are pretty cool - I have the ProKit 6 and love it, have used it both on and off-camera with great success.

I'd definitely get some big umbrellas - I prefer shoot-through as opposed to reflective. The bigger they are, the more diffused your light will be and the better it will wrap. Also, get some grids. ProKit sells them, but so do a bunch of other places. Mine actually came from a computer shop - some kind of cooling fan grid. But they're great for keeping the light tight on a spot.

Also get the Strobist gel kit from Mpex.com - that way you can white-balance your flashes to match the ambient and save yourself the headache of mixed-lighting issues.

Instead of a second lightstand, you could get a Justin Clamp (external link) - that would give you some more mobility in mounting a light to different things. They're great for working in tight locations where you can't get a lightstand, or where a boom would otherwise be needed.

As a final thought, buy McNally's "The Hotshoe Diaries" - an amazing, fun read, and it will teach you tons about off-camera lighting.

I wouldn't bother with white seamless - I got some a while back, but trying to light it with Speedlites is a real pain... You need at least 5 of them to do it well.

That is the clamp I just ordered.

Ill take a look at the speedlite modifiers. Any reason to go with those vs the larger modifiers on B&H?
