Is there any concerns I should have about ACR in PS CS4 or future creative suites not supporting my newly (yes, newly) acquired Canon 1Ds Classic? Any and all assistances will go immensely appreciated.

This has to be my biggest concern with this camera body that I have yet used.

Also, can somebody shed some light on this faux TIFF format that it uses? Does it have it's limitations?

Supported by ACR 5.7 RC and earlier. I think it unlikely that it will be dropped by PSCS/ACR 6.0, but we will know in another week. You can future-protect yourself by converting to DNG now or just wait until it is dropped (if ever) and convert then.

I've yet to shoot with the 1Ds; my previous bodies were a 5D, 40D and 1D Mark III. I'm currently starting fresh so I don't have anything I'd need to convert to DNG in the event that they drop support.

Are you familiar with the faux-TIFF RAW file type that the 1Ds apparently uses and any limitations it may have?

I see no reason why Adobe would drop support of the 1Ds...

No limitations to the TIF vs. CR2. It's just an extension ;)

Excellent, someone who uses the legendary 1Dinosaur. I will be acquiring one of these as well in the next couple of days (hopefully). The electronic focal plane shutter fascinates me.

Thanks for adding in your personal experience with a part of the classic 1D releases and PP applications. :)

It is more than just a file extension, as I believe that the TIFF file is already demosiaced, correct? I believe that RAW processors have used a variety of demosaicing techniques in the past, something that has improved much since the earliest versions of ACR.

Adobe has a DNG converter that should *always* work, as that is its intended purpose.

I bought the 1ds as soon as it came out, 7 (?) years ago and it has been my work horse ever since. I shoot RAW now and have no problems processing images in aperature 3 and photoshop, none that aren't "user stupidity" anyway. My husband offered to buy me the new Mark IV model that is coming out, but I'd rather spend the money on lenses, as I am very happy with my old dinosaur. Enjoy it.

No, if it were demosaiced it wouldn't be raw data. Almost every RAW format from all the camera makers is built onto a grey-scale (single channel) tif framework. In the early days of DSLRs Canon and others simply used the tif extension. After a few years, however, they changed that to proprietary extensions, but CR2 files are still basically tifs.

Thank you kindly for clearing that up for me. :)
