Hi everyone. My name is Cindy and I am new here. I took photography 17 years ago, and was really good when I took the class. Now, Fast forwards to 17 years later, I never leared to use my digital slr that my husband bought me 5 years ago off auto.

I have recently bought a new t1i, and hope to upgrade once I learn to use this camera at it's max. I am taking a class locally, but due to over booking I don't really feel like I am getting all that I could. I hope to get come cc from you all, and hope to learn alot.

I tried to link to the few photos that I uploaded to flicker, but they are not showing up. I need to work on that :-)

Welcome to POTN, I've started taking interest in photography almost a year ago and I have to say these were an interesting 11 months so far, still got a long way to go for sure. (May 09' is when I started with my 400D + kit lens, though the camera was laying around the office since 06' , I only got to get my hands on it much later lol)

I tried to link to the few photos that I uploaded to flicker, but they are not showing up. I need to work on that :)

You might want to try and give photobucket a spin, I find it really quick to use when I need to upload in a hurry.

I got into photography because it was part of my job at work, and while taking a vacation break, I thought "wouldn't it be great if I learned everything about photography?" back then I knew jack-**** and didn't understand modes or what RAW even was.
The camera was of course not my property, so it stayed at work... had nothing to do but read everything about cameras and stalk forums. When I got back to work I went ahead and splurged on...

My first "L" lens:

One of my first photos with above lens:

Needless to say, it became an addiction, and now I have everything you see below in my signature, though I by far don't have everything I want. I still "need" some lighting for my studio, and a wide-angle lens, preferably tilt-shift, which I'm also sorely missing.

Here is a recent photo I took of my boss when we were at a market and he tried on some goofy glasses for fun (5D2 + 85L):

If you need stuff like links to where you can learn about camera tech and how to use them, I could dig up a few that I regularly visited myself.

5DmkII | 24-70 f/2.8L II | Pentax 645Z | 55/2.8 SDM | 120/4 Macro | 150/2.8 IF
I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

thanks for all the info. I currently have a 50mm 1.8 on my camera. After the camera purhase that is all I can afford when I am feeding 6 children. I hope to get at least acceptable fast so that I can start doing portfolio shooting sessions so I can make some money to pay for another lense. I love the l series lenses. I would love to own just one :-)

I see... good luck on them portraits then!
If one could buy only one L-series for cheap, it would have to be the 70-200 f/4. At $650 new, it's the cheapest of it's kind, and if it's anything like my IS version, should have ridiculous optical quality at any aperture or focal length.

Never the less, light is a more important factor than the camera itself, so you may want to read This (external link) and maybe peruse http://strobist.blogspot.com/ (external link) too, and see if an external flash might help with your creativity.
Personally, I don't move around much, so studio strobes seem right for me. It'll be pricey, but I can see the potential for a return on investment (not that strobes have to be expensive, just the ones I need/want).

Also, here are some links to get you started. these can get pretty technical, but the more you know, the less you have to think, and the more you get to shoot. ;)

And of course you can learn from other people's images. If you're running Firefox, you can install the following add-on so you can right-click on images and see the settings that the person used at the time of exposure: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3905 (external link)

Thank you Kolor-Pikker. I have tried before to get back into photography, but I fond on other sites that when I posted looking for help that no one wanted to offer yo help unless youwere very advanced in your photography and only THEN they would talk to you. I wouldn't consider my self a beginier as I shoot in only manual mode.

I am taking a class, but like I said we are limited due to the fact that they over booked by 8 people. Even our teacher said she felt that we were getting jipped. I learn better hands on, so I do plan to read alot, but I am also hoping to find someone n my area to maybe help me out.

Thank you again for all the information.
