Thanks for looking chaps.

@galileofigaro: camera was in M (for use with studio lights) and set at f/10 IIRC to get the DOF I wanted. I shoot RAW and use ACR/Photoshop to develop the RAW files. Really, though, PP took relatively little time - some levels/curves adjustments and a little added vibrancy. Most of the effort was cloning out marks on the whiyte vinyl backdrop, which was a fairly well-used piece. What do you use for light?

Great expressions on the boy. I would brighten the background, either by shooting a stop or 2 brighter or in PP, looks a little dull.

I would have ditched the socks for some bare feet, but...great pics. the second one tells me a lot about what a little firecracker Anthony is! Mom is gorgeous. nice pics!

Thanks. I guess I could brighten the BG in PP a little, although when I have done so previously I've received C&C suggesting that it results in the subjects looking as if they are 'floating' or are pasted in.

By 'shooting a stop or two brighter' I assume you mean raising the ligth level on the BG lights by that much?

Thank you :)

Actually, I'm Anthony...and you're right - he is a real handful (aren't they all?). As for Mom, well I think she's gorgeous, too :)

Are socks generally a no-no then?

Thanks, everyone, for looking and taking the trouble to comment.

OK, I took a second look at one of the images above and lightened the background a little...masking the flyaway hairs is painful enough to encourage some extra care over the power settings on the BG lights next time!

What's the verdict...better now or was the original a better version?

I wouldn't say socks are a no-no, except when photographing babies, who in my opinion, should be showing their corn niblet toes, and not the bottom of a pair of socks that have "Baby Gap" written all over them. I just think that bare feet add more to the casualness of the image, it's a matter of personal taste though, not a rule. : )

Much better IMO, gives a freshness to the image that the duller gray background did not.

Edit: Actually looks a little uneven to the left side. How are you brightening it in PP? Can you even it out a bit more?

I guess it's brighter on the left and I could use a gradient to even up the right hand side of the image. I'll have a look when I get chance.

OK, here's a version with a somewhat more even background. I really need to do better getting this right in camera as doing it in front of a PC is a lot less fun :)

How does it look?

I agree that it would look more casual without the socks. "Mom" has beautiful eyes!

I never really enjoyed the no-socks look (as a subject, anyway) but I'll try to remember to give it a go in future and see how they come out.

Thanks, she does have great eyes. Our son seems to have inherited them too.
