For me there's only two choices in the DSLR market, Canon or Nikon. But I know there's other brands like Sigma, Sony, Pentax.

I'm wondering has anyone switched over to a non-Canon or non-Nikon system? Seems like there is less used lenses on the market but wonder is there any benefits going with a lesser know system? I considered buying a Sigma S2 before but technically it's a Nikon under the badge. :)

I had sony kit for a while- the A300. Wasn't a bad camera, certainly comparable to the rebel series. The sony live view makes everything else seem like a joke, but the lens selection (even with all the old minoltas) leaves something to be desired, and ISO capabilities weren't nearly as good.

I "Switched" from my old Minolta MD system to my Canon Xt, and onward to 40D, 30D

But during, I bought a "broke" E5xx Oly DSLR with a "broke" cf slot (SD still worked) to use with some manual glass (including Minolta MD!!)

And, bought a K10D Pentax body to use with some of the rest of my manual glass

So did I switch, or just get a little corrupted. I think all this discussion of "switching" is plain silly. I'm no rich guy, but even with "what little" I've got invested in Canon gear, there's no way I'd sell out and switch to Nik just because I thought one of their new bodies was "a little better."

I have an Olympus EP-2 micro4/3 camera that I use Canon FD lenses on. I didn't "switch" really, its just something to have fun with. I got an A1, 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 50mm f3.5 macro (with extension tube), 70-210mm f4, 2x extender in a bag for $150. haha.

I could never get rid of my main Canon set up, though.

I wonder more about people who are not switching for a new camera body but more for a certain feature not available on a system. I really like the wheel on the Canon systems, but some people prefer the more buttons on the Nikon system, that kind of example.

My first nice digital camera was a Canon SX100is. This little jewel was an awesome little camera that takes macro shots like a pro.

I upgraded to an SX10is. Nice zoom, but the photos weren't what I expected and felt disappointed after the first few pics. Digital zoom is so noise filled, it's unusable.

I upgraded again to my first DSLR and chose a Pentax KX with an 18-55 and 55-300 zoom for $700. Takes AA batteries, SD card, shoots Jpeg, Raw, or both, Hd video, and has superior noise handling. The sensor is slightly larger than Canon or Nikons APS-c size sensors.

I really love taking photos with this camera and am learning lots and love having DOF to play with.

Life is way too short.. go take some photos.
