Acknowleging the fact that Canon has been embracing the 8.5 mp sensor for practically all its digital SLRs and that the 1D has been around for about a year and some, I was wondering if the purchase of such a piece of equipment was going to make me regret my act due to an emminent 1:1, 16 mp sensor for a new 1D Mark II? Should I wait or should I go now!?

You can already get one, it's a 1DsMKII. The rumors have been a 12mp camera somewhere between a 1 series body and a D body. No idea on sensor size. Some say before Christmas, others say spring of 06. If you wait for the latest and greatest, you'll never get one!

Why prolong the suffering? Buy the 1D Mark II. You won't regret it. I think unless you're going to be printing billboards, you won't need anymore than 8 megapixels.

Thanks guys, I was fully aware of the 1Ds as I was of its 4fps which is nowhere close to the 1D 8.5fps. If I were to buy the latest and greatest of all I would in fact never get anything at all. I take it from a 1D owner as a wise advice. If a billboard contract comes up, I'll make sure to price the gig according to the 1Ds price!!!

Many billboards in the past were interpolated from the old D30's in its day. Billboards from 8.5 megapixels would be easy. :)

BILLBOARD? I'm happy when I print a 16x20 which comes out good. And I'm shootin' with 16.7 mp.

I am regularly printing 16 X 20 posters with mt 4 MP 1D and they come out AWESOME!!! No noise reduction either; just pay a little extra to get them done on a LightJet printer which does it's own interpolation.............

Lol... ok, ok... maybe the billboard comment was understating things. How about, if you're going to be doing a full sized print of Mount Rushmore haha...

Bottom line is, I'm totally happy with my 1D Mark II and can't imagine wanting to replace it anytime soon.

I want a 1Ds II so I can take pics of the family at Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I can print 4x6's on my lexmark $40 printer. I think 16 megapixels is ok for 4X6's. LOL Just kidding, I don't want any people saying "Are you dense, Man"? I love my 5D and yes 13x19's are a snap. With a little Genuine Fractals help, billboards are a snap. OF course they are of my Dog. Come on Tuesday......whats the new camera, Canon?
