that's why I was watching it, but they were showing the umbilical cord being cut during that time. I don't think I can watch another one to see.

I also think I've decided not to deliver this baby

Shouldn't be an issue until he/she reaches high school age. Dating will be problematic.

Chief, get a roller bag that is carry on regulation size, and put pelican inserts in it for your gear. :)
OR, do what I did when I went to Oregon, and pack all camera gear into my gear backpack, and put THAT into the roller bag. (I didn't want to carry it all through the airports).I put my purse in there too, and used my laptop bag as my 'personal' carry on.

Of course, I freaked the freak out, when I had to hop the little itty bitty plane that last leg to Eugene, and even teh carry on bags wouldn't fit.

They put my camera gear in the belly of the plane! GAH! And it wasn't packed for rough travel because I was supposed to be the only one holding it!!! GAAAAH!!

...I'm really confused about all the new regulations regarding carry-on baggage, and how it relates to my camera equipment. From what I understand, we are allowed one roll-on bag, and one personal bag. The roll-on bag goes in the overhead compartment, and the personal bag has to fit under the seat in front of you. Of course, you're allowed one large checked bag.

Most airlines charge all checked on bags, at least they did earlier this year.

....blablabla lots of indecision...
Worry, worry. What to do.

Can't tell you what to do, but I also never check in my camera gear but pack it all in my rolling suit case, slingshot and all. Then my laptop bad as my carry on. All the other travel stuff, clothing and such I just check in and suck up the $25 per bag cost. I'd rather have my gear with me but that's because whenever we travel, it is a photo-op no matter where we go.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I'm faced with a big decision. Lois and I are hoping to do some traveling later this year, and for a change, we will probably go by air instead of driving (it's just not as much fun as it used to be).

I'm really confused about all the new regulations regarding carry-on baggage, and how it relates to my camera equipment. From what I understand, we are allowed one roll-on bag, and one personal bag. The roll-on bag goes in the overhead compartment, and the personal bag has to fit under the seat in front of you. Of course, you're allowed one large checked bag.

Now, I am NOT going to check a bag with my camera equipment or my laptop, so they will have to be in my carry-on luggage, so that means I will have to severely limit what I take. Right now, I'm thinking the 5D2, 16-35L, 24-70L, and 70-300DO. That gives me continuous coverage from 16mm - 300mm, and that's good. The problem is, those lenses tend to be fairly heavy relative to their size. Then, I have to decide whether or not to take a flash for indoor shots. I would like to avoid having to carry the weight equivalent of a small bus around with me, but can't think of any better combination to cover all contingencies.

On the other hand, I have the 40D, 10-22 and 17-85 lenses. The IQ won't be as great as the 5D2, but still adequate, and I'll have continuous coverage from (equivalent) 16mm to 136mm. I'll be giving up the long end unless I decide to include the accursed 70-300DO lens. I'll also have a pop-up flash for emergencies.

Then there's the G10. Small, good IQ, inconspicuous, built-in flash, but limited focal range (28-140mm equivalent), and not-so-great noise handling.

I guess it ultimately depends on where we go, and whether or not there's likely to be something there worth taking pictures of.

I hate decisions like this. After I decide on the photo equipment, I have to decide whether I want to take my laptop, the iPad, both, or just a storage device for photos.

It probably will end up being something we'll have to figure out as we go. The luxury of having a car or truck with virtually unlimited space for toys is not likely to be the case from here on. I will miss those days.

Worry, worry. What to do.

I wouldn't worry, Chief. Since you're going with Lois, you can take 4 bags in the cabin. Also it depends on who you fly with. Airlines such as jetblue allowed me to take my backpack with my camera + gear and my 2nd backpack with my laptop and work stuff in the cabin - no issues - and this was after all the rigmarole of how many bags you can take etc. At the same time, my wife had her work laptop in a backpack, and her handbag (which like 99% of women is something out of Mary Poppins which just never ends on the inside!). Not once did anyone check the weight of the bags, the size of them either. Only reason I say the latter, is because most US domestic flights, there are 80% of people on the same flight as you who have bigger bags than you in the cabin.

*edit* - it is only when you go on some rent-a-budget flight that is a 6-seater plane when you will have issues with hand luggage :D

There are a number of regulation size bags availible. I use a Lowe computrecker back pack. It holds my lapstop, 1ds with 70-200 on, 5D with the 24-70 on, 580EX, 100 macro, 501.4, 100-400, bateries, chargers, power cords, and various stuff like a rocket blower. It is close to over wiegt like that(extra charge) but is carry onsize. I generally hand carry the laptop and stuff the camera bag in the over head. The problem comes if you get on late and there is no room left in the overhead or if they transfer you to a dinky plane with no over head.
You should be okay if you do a little research, pick a regulation size bag, and choose your gear accordingly.
