Hi, Zane. Spending tomorrow packing separate camera bags for Saturday and Sunday. Also gotta sort out family-share photos (memorial service for an uncle I last saw at my grandfather's memorial about 10 years ago and probably not since the early 70s otherwise, for cousins I haven't seen since the '60s and '70s). Lot of catching up to do. Then if we can hit the Potomac Cup on Sunday.

I have a bunch to quote but I'm going to do it tomorrow when I'm thinking.

I was looking for a tpbm photo and I'm not going to use this one, cuz I think he's funny, not an idiot but it made me laugh so much I thought I'd post it here. I forget why he's trying to "suicide by camera"

I just turned down shooting a family wedding. I feel very bad about it but honestly I just don't have the energy to do it on my own and Dan can't back me up (though really, even with backup I don't have the energy to do it). I wonder when, or if, I'll ever feel better. I hope this thing goes in remission soon.

I hope so too, and family should understand that

Suddenly I'm having a real strong craving for pizza!

I'm that way, too. There are a bunch of little ma 'n pa type diners in California's Gold Country, and I think I've found all of the good ones. The only chain up here that I really like is Jimboy's Tacos. It's a fast food place with a couple dozen franchise in Northern California and Nevada. I just love the food there. It's fast food, but the quality is what you would expect from a fancy and expensive Mexican restaurant.

Ooooh, not with me! I do like Papa John's. The only other chain pizza place I'd consider going to is Pizza Factory. But, then, I haven't actually eaten pizza in probably about two years now...

So far I haven't noticed anything missing...

Well, this hotel's wifi is very slow, so I think I'll finish catching up later. Just wanted to let y'all know I arrived safe and sound. I got some real bad news when I got to Jackson, but I was kind of expecting it. I don't remember if I mentioned it in here, but when I called the motel that my friend runs in Jackson to make my reservations, I got a message saying "The number you have reached has been disconnected or is no longer in service". So, I tried sending Jeff email to ask what happened with the phone number. The email bounced. The address was no longer valid.

I contacted a friend who lives in nearby Pine Grove and asked if she had any idea what was going on. She hadn't heard anything, so she called the Chamber of Commerce. They were just as surprised as I was to learn that the phone number was no longer valid.

So... I made reservations at a different hotel, and when I got here in Jackson a few hours ago, I made a beeline for his motel. The "house" part where he lived had all of the curtains removed and I could see that his rooms were completely emptied. I found two women who I didn't recognize, cleaning the place, and I asked them what happened.

Jeff died a few weeks ago from an overdose. I didn't ask for more details, since I didn't recognize the women and they seemed a little uncomfortable with me asking as little as I did, but my curiosity is really getting to me and I may end up going back at some point during this trip and see if the women, or anyone else, is still around.

Jeff wasn't a drug abuser, but he did have several health problems over the past few years, and I'd be willing to bet anything it was an accidental overdose on prescription drugs.

I saw Jeff on Christmas Eve during my last trip up here, before I headed home the following morning. For some reason as we chatted that evening we found ourselves talking about Ashley and the day she died. When I told Jeff that he was the first person I called when she died he got kinda misty-eyed and hugged me. That was the last time I saw him...

Sorry to hear about your friend Lonnie. Hope the rest of your trip goes well

Turns out I got a foster today after all. :)

He was a stray, the people who picked him up called me.
I'll call the shelter in the morning, but will only send them a photo of him in case anyone calls looking. I won't take him in.
If he does belong to someone, they haven't taken care of him. He is skinny, long nails, dirty ears, broken tail, sunburned face... and his poop was almost all grass, so I think that's all he's been eating lately. :(

He's bathed and fed, and currently happily sleeping on my feet. :)
He is SO SO SO sweet. The girls LOVE him.

Everyone meet Paxton. A 7 month old Staffordshire Terrier.

He is a cutie Cat

ACTUAL transcript of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. This radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10-10-95.

Americans: "Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision."

Canadians: "Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision."

Americans: "This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course."

Canadians: "No, I say again, you divert YOUR course."

Americans: "THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S ONE-FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP."

Canadians: "This is a lighthouse. Your call."

Not really true, but still funny. :p

LMAO
