Thought I'd do a before and after on this garden project. Here are a couple before, you can see what I mean about the lilies and iris being in hills:

And if any one can tell me what the little weeping tree is, I'd sure appreciate it. Here is a lousy shot of one of the buds on it:

Here are the first two pics of construction a the JJ residence.

I should have grabbed a before, but here are the forms for the sidewalk we are putting in from the side deck to the driveway. Picture a small garden planter on either side and a retaining wall when all is done.

IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4009/4517565439_55a77c2f21_b.jpg

The main work is the front patio. it use to be all brick but was sagging and we had a nasty water issue as well. The whole thing is coming out and a new one put in.

Lost any quotes I may have had.

Becky
your plants look high in the beds as a a result of years of mulching though they could just be high. It's not a bad thing. Minimize how much dirts you add as you rather they are high than low. Use a spade to cut a nice defined edge on your beds, add a little soil, and mulch is my suggestion. Use pine fines or a mix of shredded pine and fines. It is better for the garden than nasty shredded hardwood mulch.

Your weeping tree is a grafted weeping cherry. If you look at it you will see they grafted a weeping top to a straight cherry trunk. It will stay smallish and make an umbrella instead of getting very big.

The bud you posted is indeed a magnolia.

Redbud (external link)?

Nope but the red bud flower are edible and kind of sweet and nutty when still young and tight on the tree. They make a pretty accent in salad.

Nice phlox Wool.
