How much better is the SX20 than the S5is?

Better lens?

Better processor?

I need mostly for photographs rather than vid quality...

Just curious as both of these cameras take some really nice photos!

Thanks for the help:D

I loved my S2 but it seems to take far inferior pics to my SX20. I get far better focus and quality with the SX20 when shooting on the fly then I do when I take my time to set things up with the S2. I know that the S5 is a whole different camera, but I've been more than happy with the upgrade.

I have both. The SX20 is much better. Better lens, better processor, and also can used hacked firmware to shoot RAW and/or Superfine. No question the images are better and can stack up against cameras costing much more.

Well, it appears the lens on the S5 might be faster, f/3.5 at 430mm tele. The SX20 is f/5.7 at 560mm. Hope what you're zooming in on stands still :) I don't know for sure what the SX20 is at 430mm. The SX20 has a much more useful wide angle at 28mm vs 36mm though.

Ok,

So I have the S5IS and I Cannot get up close on things such as text in Auto mode in full daylight . I have to stand back and zoom in. Am I missing something here, shouldn't this camera be able to do that. My Treo camera can do that for Pete's sake!! I used my sister in laws SX20is and it could shoot up close with no problems even in a darkly lit room. Should I try resetting the camera ( if that is possible ) or new firmware or does this model just have an issue with close photography? Any help is appreciated...

The S5IS has both Macro and Super-Macro modes.....

Focusing Range
Normal: 1.6 ft./50cm-infinity (WIDE), 3.0 ft./90cm-infinity (TELE)
Macro: 3.9 in.-1.6 ft./10-50cm (W)
Super Macro: 0-3.9 in./0-10cm (W)
