Since I'm not good at posing models yet, here's a shot of one of my friends from our practice shoot in the woods last week. She wanted black and white, and I think this translates well. I like it a lot, but am still pretty new to photography (got the DSLR last August), so I would love to know how I could take a picture like this and make it better.

Would like to see her face more straight on with regards to the vertical position of the camera. I think you missed the focus. It looks like it dialed into her hair (upper left).

I think B/W was the righ way to go. HOpe that helps.

Get some light in her eyes and focus on them. Get some angles on her.

Keep shooting!

I like the look of the wild hair. Some sparkle to the eyes and some detail in the shadows would help to make this a much lovelier portrait. This can be done with a little fill flash or a reflector. Nice effort.

Max - this girl has some rough (deep pores and some scars) skin so I cleaned it up using the Totally RAD action called "Pro Retouch" and then I ran some other processes on it to give it an artsy look. As I tend to do, I probably over processed the skin and softened it too much. Here's a relatively unprocessed version of the same picture. Does the face still look out of focus to you?

While I'm on the topic of skin retouching. Is there a way to smooth up the skin while maintaining her freckles? In some of the other pictures I've taken of this girl, her skin looks uneven after I've processed it, whereas other people's skin looks great with the same action.

A couple of quick edits of a very lovely girl. As far as the smoothing - healing brush, d&b on a softlight layer, and a little Topaz. Lightened her eyes a little. Applied a little soft focus filter to the b&w and adjusted layer opacities.
