Hoping you guys can help me. I just can't seem to get my camera to truly focus. This was taken on tripod, with timer, so shouldn't be any camera shake. Any tips?

It looks focused to me in the centre where I assume you focused.... you can see her pores are very well defined. Perhaps you want more DOF and need to close your apperture.

What were your settings?

Not sure exactly what you mean.

You shot at around 50mm @ F7.1 and I'm guessing at around 3 feet, your depth of field would be about 5 inches.

However, you shot at 1/30th of a second, leaving plenty of scope for subject movement. Try getting a little quicker shutter speed.

Other than that, what were you expecting?

Looks plenty sharp to me. Are you pixel-peeping it at 200% or something?

She may have moved. Try decreasing Aperture and Increasing shutter speed.

Looks like you didn't focus on the left eye to me... did you use the center point and recompose? or let the camera pick the focus point(s)?

What aperture did you use? If you used a narrow aperture, then her left eye falls outside the focal plane and will be OOF. Take a look at a Depth of Field chart and that will shed some light on things. There is nothing wrong w/ focus in this picture. Keep in mind that the wider the aperture, the more shallow the DoF will be and there will be less room for error.

As there is no Exif data, it is difficult to tell what caused any blur.

It looks pretty good to me though.

Her left eye (her right as you look at the pic) is out of focus because the focus point is on her right cheek.
It's so sharp there, you can count her pores.
