No, no, NO! You've all got it wrong.

You're supposed to hold the left and right side of the camera at arm's length and compose the picture on the LCD. This is the digital age, dad gum it!

Duh!?

Laugh all you want, but I saw a photographer doing just that with a 1DsIII in Live View mode.

She was taking pictures of a family interacting with some tiger cubs at an African themed hotel in the Wisconsin Dells.

I was so astonished I completely forgot to get a picture.

Did she not realise you can get a smaller P&S?

I see people shooting like this all the time with their kit lens or nifty fifty, etc. I would love to see someone attempt to support a 70-200 2.8 IS or a 100-400L like this. Holding the camera like this is not safe because it puts unsupported stress on the connection point of the lens and camera.

Well, many do - and guess why they find a grip "makes things balance better"! They're expecting the right hand, which is also trying to smoothly depress the shutter release, to do all the heavy lifting.

I'm sure the big DSLR was there to justify the insane pricing on the photos and the large signs prohibiting use of personal equipment.

The fact that she didn't know how to properly use it was just icing on the cake IMHO.

I was at lunch with a friend today and she was laughing because I have one golden suntanned hand and one lily-white hand and she wanted to know where I'd been putting my pale hand!

I've noticed it myself over the last few days and was totally perplexed until I read this thread. Now it all makes sense!

I've been out a lot in the sun lately and my right hand is holding the camera and has been exposed to the sun and my left hand is upside down in the shade underneath the lens
