OK, I've been going back and forth lately on whether or not to change my sports sales website name. For the last 1 1/2 years I've used sdsportspics.com. I've found it to be a bit tougher to explain to people than I thought it would be. This website would be primarily for my sports stuff.

I've recently become involved with a website called sportsbuzzard.com and my "handle" on that website is PhotoBuzzard. I have been thinking of renaming my sports sales to www.photobuzzard.com (external link). I find this to be much catchier name that will be easier to tell people and will be much easier for them to remember. I would also be able to come up with a logo using the "buzzard" theme that I could use on my marketing.

My official business name will still be Derek Cecil Photography, but I want something separate for my sports stuff.

Anyways, looking for some opinions. What do you think? I'll even put up a token poll.

That seems way better, for sure. Your current name looks like a tongue twister.

Thanks for the input guys. That's the direction I was leaning. Just wasn't sure if PhotoBuzzard was too cheesy or not!

Well, PhotoBuzzard's out to a commanding lead!

I guess I'll have to start looking into a logo!

I went with Buzzard - its a bit more catchy and will stick in peoples minds better.

I just don't like the connotation of a buzzard as a scavenger. Scavengers settle for leftovers and dead stuff.

How about adding some type of separator between the SD and sportspics? If you are specifically a South Dakota sports photographer and that's your target clientele, that could be enough to distinguish you from others -- especially the buzzards.

I understand the scavenger aversion, but the "SportsBuzzard" name has a pretty good following here in SD, and I've actually had a surprising number of people approach me asking if I'm the "PhotoBuzzard" already. The SportsBuzzard motto is "Covering local high school sports like a buzzard on a gut wagon" and that seems to sit just fine with folks around here.

I do appreciate the input!

The one thing I notice is that my original site name is the clear loser in the poll!

In that case, it certainly makes sense to use name recognition as a springboard. Detroit certainly ain't South Dakota!;):)
