I need something that will help put people at different heights in the picture. Most of the time these will be stepped on by kids, but sometimes be put on the stool's for people to sit on. I don't have adjustable stools yet.

In theory this should be something easy but I havent been able to think of anything yet. Dense foam would work best.

Any suggestions and sources?

typically if I do not have access to my stools I put them on the ground. Its pretty easy to attain different levels this way.
I am not so sure about foam. It is an interesting idea but I would be concerned that they may not be sturdy enough.
I have also used my step ladder that I almost always have with me on shoots.

Phone books?

Cinder blocks cost $0.50 or something like that.

One pose I like to do, especially for church directories is to have the parents sit on the stools *its a pain when the parents are the same height, so it would be nice to be able to stagger them* and then if the kids are around 10 or so, have them stand beside each parent, but sometimes they are to short for this, which is why the blocks are nice to have.

In the studio I use to work for, they had foam blocks in a few different sizes that the kids couid stand on, it was pretty sturdy, must have been dense foam or something.

Phone books would work, why didnt I think of that? I wonder where I can get some that are a couple inches wide. My local book is only a cm wide. Perhaps I should just stop by verizon and ask, gotta find them first. :)

cinder blocks are an idea, where do you find them? lowes/home depot?

Thanks for the link sevilla, its loading now. :D

My office had replaced their desk chairs. I took the arms and backs off the old ones and got 4 adjustable posing stools.

Get a source on old office furniture and you're golden.

Apple boxes are what is traditionally used. When I shot a lot of textbook work I carried them since one of the rules was orientals could not be shorter than anglos.

You should be able to buy cinder blocks from either Lowes or Home Depot.

It also just occurred to me.... step aerobics. Cheap height adjustable platforms that are designed to be stood upon, still readily available.

WOW Snails! That is a great idea! I'm one of those that have been using phone books, only because when I opened my studio, they kept dropping off phone books, so I have 4 6-inch books and 2 4-inch books! I had covered them so they would be a little more sturdy and not as cheezy looking LOL.

Build your own apple boxes, it's much cheaper than buying them.
