Greg Yaitanes (external link) is the series director for season six of the award-winning TV dramaHouse (external link), which I probably don’t need to tell you stars Englishman Hugh Laurie as curmudgeonly physician Gregory House, healing the sick with sarcasm and withering stares.
Just a few hours ago, Yaitanes let slip on Twitter (external link) that the season six finale was shot entirely on a Canon 5D. This is prime-time, high ratings network television. On a 5D

Asked which lenses did you use (external link)?, the reply was: All Canon zooms and primes. The 70-200 was a go to (external link). That said, other lenses like the 35 and 85 (external link) and the 24-70 (external link) were useful too.

PS. Wasn't sure if I should post this here or POTN Lounge. Feel free to move if I was wrong.

Yeah, it obviously would have to have been a Mark II.

I'd be interested in seeing the episode. It's not a show I normally watch. It looks like it'll air May 17 (in the US, anyway): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_%28season_6%29 (external link)

I will have to see it. wonder WHY they would use a DSLR instead of regular cameras?? It's not like they have a small budget or something....

Maybe someone smashed their Arri-cam or something.

I don't know, honestly don't know haha. Maybe canon publicising, but they've been very quiet about it!

There have been small independent films shot on 5D/7D's, but that seems feasible as they probably don't have huge budgets to play with.

We'll have to see it but it could be a highly mobile episode, maybe something where a small 5D Mark II would fit while standard cameras would not. Could be very shaky, keep the Gravol handy...

I heard about this the other day. With House being one of my favorite shows I'm really excited to see this episode.

House is one of my all time favorite shows as well.
One thing I've noticed while watching over the years is that it uses DOF to define attention to the subject all the time. I have never noticed it before in any other show as much as house. It's almost to the point of annoying, but just almost.

I can't wait to see it knowing it was shot with this camera.

Thanks for sharing.

If they are doing something artistic (which they have done in the past) I guess I could see the use for a 5DmkII. It's one of my favorite shows even though I don't want it all the time. I'm sure it will be an excellent episode. :)
