wavy paper background problem

I bought a new Colorama paper background, when I rolled it out in my studio I got the following problem: the paper on the ground is "wavy". It is straight when hangs in the air, but when it lays on the floor it becomes wavy.

You can see it here:

What could be the problem?

I think you just need to pull it out more. I usually put sandbags on the edges of the paper to keep tension on it. You also need to put some sandbags on those light stands or they will fall down one day. Guaranteed.

I tried to flatten out the air bubbles, put something on the edges of paper but the bubbles appeared again in new places.

Yes the right stand is lower on the photo, but it was equal to the height of the left in the studio.

When I pulled out about 6 meters on the floor I get the following result: first to meters were "bubbled", 2nd were straight and the 3rd again bubbled. I also tried to put a plexiglass on the bubbled are, but it push the bubbles to another place only :(

If you don't see or feel any buckling or warping when the paper is hanging vertically then it does seem like you're just not pulling it out straight. I can't see a way for it to show itself on the ground but not when hanging. If you had buckles that large you would see it.

Are all the buckles on the same side? If so, you might have more tension on the opposite side (the side without the buckles). Go to the end on the side without buckles and pull that corner diagonally away from the buckles and see if that helps.

Hmm, that's really weird. If you're pretty convinced that it's in the paper then you can of course send it back but that's only worth it if the retailer will pay for the shipping.

Depending on the brand, some manufacturers will just write it off and send you a replacement. I had that happen once with a roll of Savage paper.

I dont know that the paper is responsible for the problem. It is a strange thing owing to there is no problem when hanging vertically so the paper doesnt contains the bubbles, but when it lays on the ground the air bubbles comes.

I will test it and make a video about the problem tomorrow and post it here.

If that's the case then it has to be uneven ground or uneven unrolling and laying it out.

What happens when you only roll out a few feet? Does it lay flat? If it does lay flat then at what point does it start to buckle?

Are all of the buckles on one side of the paper?

If it's not completely even when pulled out, it will do that. Pull it taut and pin it down on four corners if you want it perfect.

Psst - you might want to do a little dance on that paper before you put someone on it. That floor/paper combo looks pretty dang slippery without bags or tape...

Another test - does the paper wrinkle when its just on the floor and not suspended??? i.e. roll it out with the tube laying on the ground.

Finally, is the tube warped? Does it "bounce" when you unroll it?

After few years working with seamless...that happens when

Your Background support is uneven
very humid weather
stored improperly seamless gets funny if is not stored in vertical position

Going from that I'd say check the height of your support. Looks like the right side is lower than the left.

Use a bubble level to make sure paper is level.
