:shock: if it's back focusing .. you have to go minus ... to focus nearer you..

This is correct. Most of my lenses front focus by a very small amount and I have to go +

You can easily test that by putting minus 25 or something and see what it gives :-).

If you have to 'pull' the point of focus back closer towards you it's -
If you have to 'push the point of focus further away from you it's +

if the lens is back focusing then you slide the slider to the 'left' so that it'll focus more to the front.

if the lens is front focusing then you slide the slider to the 'right' so that it will focus more to the back...

Clear as mud? :)

after some test i think you re the only one who is right..!!!

but anyway thank you all for your contribution...

one more question please....witch are the normal microadjusment amounts so a lens would not be considered as a bad copy,or broken,or problem lens..
a +12...-12 is it a normal amount..???

between -20 till +20 .. can be normal as samples here are some of my micro adjustement

For my 5DMKII with lenalign
85L1.2II -> 0
135L2.0 -> -8
135L2.0+TC1.4X -> -6
70-300DOIS @300mm-> -7
300L2.8nonIS -> +6
300L2.8non+TC1.4X -> +6
300L2.8nonIS+TC2X -> +13
300L2.8nonIS+TC1.4X+TC2X -> +17
50F1.4 -> +5
24L1.4II -> +6

For my 50D with lens align
Sigma24F1.8 -> +15
50F1.4 -> +11
24L1.4II -> +13
135L2.0 -> -7
300L2.8nonIS -> +6
70-300DOIS @300mm-> -5

It took me hours to do all of this, and of course results can concern only my bodies and lenses ...
I wanted to buy a second gand 1DsMKII .... but without micro adjustment I will get "nervous" .. real life results are so different with and without adjutment particularly with primes and a very thin dof.

Actually, i would never buy a body that can't do any micro adjustemts.

The way I got my head around this +/- question is like this:

  • If I want to increase the distance between the camera and the plane of critical focus, I increase the AFM increment (make the adjustment value more positive).
  • To decrease the camera to plane of critical focus, I do just the opposite.
