I guess getting really good photos depends on your location. If you are landlocked like I am getting such images are a pipe dream. Sure I see a decent sunset every so often, but it seams shooting it from your back yard or near a strip mall aint even worth it.

So, thats the key huh? Water?

Grass is always greener on the other side. I live in near Chicago, IL and I would LOVE to shoot in CO with all the mountains and dynamic scenery heh

My biggest problem is actually getting away to get those shots. There is always macro I guess :)

I live in the Arizona Desert and you're upset about not being near water?

Just did a search on flickr for Denver sunset.
Saw some amazing shots of sunsets reflected in the glass of skyscrapers, never would have occurred to me.

From Chicago, Starved Rock National Park is only a couple of hours away. I had some fun there for a sled dog demo in January, I'm thinking about going back in May for some quality photography.

Go up to Desoto State Park (where everyone climbs--it's near Boulder). Get pictures of people up on the rock walls a thousand feet off the ground (or hundreds). There's also a ghost town up above Golden, the moutains, of course, and more.

Dude, Colorado is a great place for landscapes.

Thank you. bw!

I am sure it is, BUT getting away is very hard to do. Work and my Dad is disabled and needs care 24/7 and I don't drive

But I guess as long as I get the shots I want in the conditions I shoot in, is still good, right :)

You live in Colorado. Home of the Rockies and stuff? Remember those big mountains to your west? I bet they are full of spectacular vistas, ponds, streams, wildlife, etc. At least here on the Utah side of the Rockies, that is the case.

So, while you are right that you probably aren't going to get wallhangers shooting at the strip mall, you don't have to go far - you just do have to actually go. We all have responsibilities but the photographers with the best images are out when and where most others aren't.

I live just up the beach (across the border) from there and we get awesome sunrise and sunset shots here.

However, I gotta say I lived in the prairies for 20 years (Calgary Alberta) and saw the sun going down over the Rockies every night and thats pretty damn awesome too.

Not much water there!

Meanwhile, there are people in Colorado wishing they could get cool shots of city skylines like Chicago.
