B+W Kaesemann Flare Issues

I just got my 77mm B+W Kaesemann in the mail yesterday and had a chance to use it for the first time today.

I was disappointed to see how susceptible to flare my 10-22 became after adding the filter. I know the situation below is about the worst possible scenario, but I still thought a 170.00 filter would fare better.

Am I expecting too much?

Usually wide angle lens are more susceptable to flair, if might not be the filter. Can I ask where you purchased the filter from ?

Yah, I know they are - it just seems much worse than the 10-22 would have done on its own.

I bought the filter from Ace Photo Digital via Amazon.com - I would have bought it from bh or Adorama but they were closed for their Holiday several days when I was ready to order.

BTW, the pic is unedited - I made it look much better with a few minutes in post, but it still isnt worth saving with all the flare. I just wanted to show the un-edited version to show what Im up against.

Do you have a hood?

You're shooting directly into the sun and glare; a polarizer isn't going to be very effective in that situation anyhow. Come to that, did you try the shot without a polarizer and see if you did or didn't get flare in it then? Shooting directly into a point source is a recipe for flare with or without a filter.

Like Jon, that's pretty harsh lighting there and I doubt any comparable type lens/filter combo would preform any better.

Yeah, that's not the fault of the filter...
