This $125 Tiltall (external link)is not a big, heavy tripod, but one that I've had for 40 years & it has held up well. I have others, & while it's not as fast to set up as others, it's the one I keep in my trunk & use the most. I used to do a lot of travel for PJ work & it's the only one that went with me then, too.

Note that at the bottom of the page it says "all current "Pros" have a removable leg which becomes a Monopod when TEP-6 is taken from the base of the center column and added to the top of the leg."

Rick likes it too: https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=2420266&postcount=47

Without a picture of the tripod or at least the model, pretty tough to say..... but if you look around Ebay, here, and Craigslist, you can find some good buys on tripods and heads occasionally. (I've now got three Bogen 486 series balls)

Here's one of my early projects:

an old Slik, which it turns out wasn't that strong. I made a piece which allowed the adaptation of a Bogen ball head--which I bought used for, I think, 35 bucks

Later, I re-worked the original panhead and made it actually useable

I bought this entire Mead scope for, I think 40.00 or so, and made a new spider to convert the tripod into something useful:

The head, at the time, was a used eBay item, I think I paid 25-40 bucks for it

Some of my other junk

This would be hard to have a sub $100 to purchase, the words 'economy' and 'false', though not in that order, comes to mind. I had a calumet one, and it started to fall to pieces within a year, plus...stability wise, was not that good

The only sub $100 tripod I would bother with would be a used Tiltall which you can get off of ebay for under $100.

Ain't nothin but a thing.
