Best Sun Angles?

Is anyone with experience aware of a general rule of thumb for the best sun angles for bird photography. I know the morning and evening are best, but at what point in the morning is the sun too high (inclination angle)? And the same question for the afternoon (inclination angle)?

Thanks

Depends on the time of the year, in winter the sun is at low angles all the time, not neccessarily in the right direction mind you

Depends what part of the world you're in!

I was amazed at how low the sun was sitting on my recent trip to Europe as opposed to here in northern Australia. Completely different.

(the sun is actually visible regularly here too ;))

I'm a little further North than you are, but in summer, count on 7:30am to about 10:30am. They say that early morning light is always best, but I think it generally stinks for bird shooting. I'd like to know who they is, he gets blamed for a lot of stuff that's not his fault. Very early light might be good for flowers or landscapes, brick buildings or sunrises. But not for birds.

First off, you need faster shutter speeds, which means more light. Second, early morning light is red, and makes the colors of birds all wrong. I think animals with all the wrong colors is just, well, wrong. Just my opinion of course. ;)

You can shoot birds anytime of the day. I like a lot of light. Keep your back to the sun. I don't like to shoot up into trees with the bright light showing through the branches. Most of my birds are low and that allows bushes, trees and canyon walls to give a nice BG. Mitch is right, morning or evening direct sunlight gives the bird a strange color. At least that's my 2 cents worth.
