I'm a little further North than you are, but in summer, count on 7:30am to about 10:30am. They say that early morning light is always best, but I think it generally stinks for bird shooting. I'd like to know who they is, he gets blamed for a lot of stuff that's not his fault. Very early light might be good for flowers or landscapes, brick buildings or sunrises. But not for birds.
First off, you need faster shutter speeds, which means more light. Second, early morning light is red, and makes the colors of birds all wrong. I think animals with all the wrong colors is just, well, wrong. Just my opinion of course.
