Today, President of Poland, First Lady, as well as another 86 people of polish delegacy, president guards & crew members were killed in an plane accident which occured near Smolensk airport in Russia. They was going to visit the 70th-years anniversary of massacre in Katyn, where around 20.000 polish officers were killed during WWII. Sad symbolic coincidence...

Thousands of polish people came today near the Presidental Palace to lighten up the lamps, lay down some flowers and give back some respect.

Very nice photos. My family has been taking this pretty hard, all the flowers in front of the palace was quite a sight and I really like the angles of the shots of the crowd and the people signing the books. Did the guards do anything special while you were near the grob nieznanego zolnierza? Must have been interesting to see what the guards do in such a situation.

Actually this is not a "Grob nieznanego zolnierza", this is Presidental Palace, there was no problem to go inside. The cancellary layed some books for people to write down, everyone can came and lay some thoughts.

Oh, my bad. It's just so rare to see so many flags in front of the palace, it's usually by the monument so that threw me off.

All of your photos in this thread are nothing short of excellent, the latest ones do very well to capture a heavy/cold atmosphere as B&W. It's good to see such documentation of this because (hopefully) this will never happen again.
