Spent some of the day at The Ohio State University Airport sitting by the tower. A lot of heat haze but got what I could.

1. This isn't the best picture but the gentlemen in this Diamond Star had a little issue when landing. They were told to report midfield left downwind for 27L and then a few minutes later I see a plane over my head perpendicular to the rwy heading for the center of the airport. He took the term midfield literally and went to the center of the airport and then ATC had to direct him for a right downwind landing. Luckily the airport was dead at the time otherwise it could have been bad. As usual with something like this the tower told the Diamond to call him on the phone to straighten the situation out.

Ouch. Hopefully the guy in the DA-40 just received a verbal chewing and nothing more than that. I really like #2.

Nice series.

Nice Set ! I especially like #2, it brings back a lot of memories of learning to fly in the late 60's. That's what the 150's looked like at Palwaukee.

Thanks guys. I wanted to ask one of the controllers coming off of duty if they've seen that before but I had to leave.

Nice series, I especially like 1 & 2.

I'm a controller so I'll answer your question....yea, it happens more often than you think, especially at the smaller GA airports. I worked at Chicago-Waukegan and now at Kenosha Regional and it can really makes things interesting when there's a mis-communication. We've had people land wrong runways, wrong direction, and even wrong airports. Pretty crazy sometimes.

Anyone can make a mistake on any given day, most of the times it's how its handled after the fact that determines the outcome. Rest assured though that there are very professional pilots, controllers, ground crew, & airport maintenance everywhere that make the system work well.
