What picture style are you using on a 7d?

I have just recently got myself a new 7d and have generally had it set to "landscape" as my standard picture style as it is supposed to enhance colours, especially blues and greens.

My pics still however seem to lack the overall bright and vivid colours that I regularly see in some of the posts on this forum.

Are you customising picture style by increasing saturation, colour intensity and contrast etc to get these results?

Alot of people here on POTN shoot in RAW, so Picture styles become meaningless (unless using fatithful to get a correct Histogram or so)

Generally the extra colours and contrast are also added in PP, this way you have much more control over how the final image will look.

If you haven't done it already I would definitely recommend that you look closer at shooting RAW instead.
7D is a very capable camera and you lose a lot of image information when shooting only jpg.
And as mentioned, YOU have the control and possibility to make adjustments to YOUR liking when using RAW :)

Cant you get a faster frame rate shooting only Jpegs?

To answer the question, Landscapes (with added saturation) & Standard (with added sharpness).

Doofuss, I've played with the Picture Styles on my 40D. Remember, the picture style enhancements are only available when you shoot JPGs. On the factory-set standard and landscape settings, I don't see much of a difference. You can, however, adjust those factory settings, which I've done and the shots will have more intensity, contrast, sharpnetss, etc.

All that said, I shoot RAW 90% of the time, so I add enhancements in post processing. My guess is that most of the shots posted here were taken in RAW and post processed at least a bit. This is more work, but it gives a better result than the Picture Styles IMHO.

To be honest, I hardly ever shoot in raw due to size of the files and then having to post edit.

My wife and I love to travel and we head off on an overseas holiday at least once a year. Depending where we head to it is not uncommon for me to snap off 1000 plus pics. Ok, not a lot of those will end up as keepers, but I still dont want to be editing hundreds of photos every time I come back, hence why I nearly always shoot jpeg.

I might just play around with the saturation and contrast settings on standard and landscape and see what results I can get coupled up with a polarising filter as well.

You can batch process raw shots to jpeg with photoshop I think so don't let that scare you away from RAW. With the RAW files there you will have the power to recover an image much more easily from a dubious exposure.

You can use picture styles in RAW if you use the Canon DPP software. In fact, you can change the picture style in DPP if you shoot RAW.
