The zoom ring on my Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC has stripped, I see Tamron offers repairs via ups/fedex can anyone take an educated guess on what this i going to cost me?

How old is it? Tamron offers a 6 year warranty. I'd get it fixed under warranty then sell it. The 28-300 was a really poor lens when I owned it for about a week. Soft at both extremes, and a CA monster. The VC worked really well though.

cool only 2 years old, it is soft on the end however my shooting spot is in the 135 to 185 range when shooting my daughter dance and the VC is very good, so much cheaper than the 80-200 2.8L I really want

It should work really well in that range.
