They spend billions billions of dollars on promoting China: free tickets for every Shanghai family + car allowance + 5 days holiday for the Shanghai World Expo in May. But almost zero for schools in remote area.

Oh I agree. I know it's not only in China. Even in the United States there are places like this - not that it's ever publicized - however at least in this country there IS all kinds of aid, but sometimes people don't qualify for strange reasons. I had to be in the welfare office with a friend several years ago and I overheard a caseworker telling a family that they could not have aid because they owned their vehicle which was a couple of years old SUV, but they had several children, and it was their only car. The system would require them to sell it and get the cheapest car possible for them to qualify, and even then, they would ask them to live off of the money that they got in the sale of the vehicle first before giving them any assistance. Very strange rules sometimes.

These photos do exactly what they are supposed to - expose people to the conditions of these children, and evoke strong feelings of sadness and sympathy.

Because the government doesn't want people living in villages. Villages aren't as productive as large scale farming or cities. :(

What sucks is that there are others who take advantage of the system. There are a couple of low income renting areas where I live. They may not be able to pay the rent, maybe it's the $40k truck in the garage.

Oh I agree but you know that's probably because they are dealing drugs on the side (or some other similar way of cheating the system)

I don't believe in hand-outs, but I think welfare is a flawed system, and there should be rules for a case by case situation not across the board stuff probably. I dunno - I'm not a politician, I just know the system is broken.

Sorry to go off topic OP!

And the government should be able to dictate where people live for any reason, muchless productivity reasons? I don't think so.

Well, since I live in China, I can see this thing everyday. Even in a major urban city like GuangZhou. There are rumors said that some kids are kidnapped from their parents. Then the kidnapper will cut off their body part, or use some chemical liquid to change the kid's appearance.

Later on.. Become a beggar!

The govt here cares more about appearance of their cities, they build apartments.. bridges.. city ordinance everywhere.. But not welfare for their citizen. It's sad to know this fact since the first time I arrived.

But later, you will become familiar. I can even see western ppl spit on the street just because most chinese spits all the time.. it's very disgusting..

I used to have a friend who come from Australia told me like this when we were searching for a restroom inside a mall:
"Well.. Here we are.. I can smell it from few meters away.." << you know what i mean, dude..

I'm with you. I didn't say I agreed with it... I was just stating the reason.
