I haven't posted anything in a while so here goes. I know I need a better setting but this was a test to see if it could be done. Next step is to wait for a still day to take it in a better setting. Also, it's a bit grainy from the 800 ISO needed inside with the light I had. Click for large size:

Cool. I saw this done with some high speed video cameras. Very neat to see how they burst. They start at one point and work their way around the ball. :)

My girlfriend wants to know why you can see her reflection on the left of the bubble?

Either our partners look similar, or we're dating the same woman who has occasional blackouts and doesn't even remember her own infidelity!

Maybe it's just an identical twin she doesn't know about?

Judge not the artist by the quality of his brush, but by the strokes he makes with it.

That cracked me up! Here is a non reflection shot to compare if it is the same woman.

I can reveal - they don't look anything like each other!

For a start, mine is bigger than Sydney Opera House (external link).

And with her one true love (external link).

So how difficult was it to get this shot?

How many attempts to get one than worked?

It took about 30 minutes of trying to get this one but I got a bunch of other pops as well in the process. I would say one out of every six comes out but I was unhappy with the results at first as I was shooting with the sun to my back. When I switched I got no reflections but I did get a much clearer image of the burst.

Did you do much experimentation with the shutter speed?

Have a look a Richard Heeks stream on FlickR, probably the most famous "bubble burster" and he has a few helpful comments / notes in his set: Richard Heeks on FlickR (external link)
