Hi I have not long had my 7D and I recently set the AF point to display when viewing images on the LCD so that I could be sure it was focusing as intended. I have also moved Autofocus from the shutter button to the AF button on the back.

Using the camera today I noticed a lot of my pictures looked OK but the AF point wasn't showing (although it was on some) after quite a bit of head scratching and a bit of luck I realised that the AF point display only appeared on pictures where I had held the AF button down whilst taking the picture rather than pressing it to focus then letting go and pressing the shutter button.

Does this sound normal as it seems a strange way for it to work as it is clearly focusing OK so why doesn't it show the point even if I had let go of the AF button?

If it is normal that is fine, just seems weird and hopefully this post will help other people who can't understand why they dont see the AF point in every pictures.

Thanks

Yup that is normal (at least that is how it works for me). The camera doesn't know what you've done after you have removed your finger from the AF button.. you could have manually tweaked the focus yourself thereby rending the focus point useless :)

Hope that helps
