Last night I got motivation to head out and try my hand at very-long-exposure night photos, to get some star trails happening.

These two images are single exposures, not multiples.

#1, 5D Mark II, Canon 15mm Fisheye, F/8, ISO 200, 30mins

#2, 5D Mark II, Canon 15mm Fisheye, F/9, ISO 100, 37mins:

This is my first real attempt at star trails. Let me know what you think!

Bravo sir, some of the better star trails I've seen, and if these are you first attempts then I'm doubley-impressed! Lovely colours. Quite fanced a 15mm Fisheye myself...shame I can't afford one! ;)

Canon EOS 450D, Sigma 18-200mm, Canon 50mm f/2.5 Macro, 2x TC, Revelation 12" f/5 Dobsonian, Mintron PD2285-EX webcam.

I would recommend always shooting at iso 100 for star trail photos. I have also noticed that stacking shorter exposures when using digital gear will give you a better end result with alot less noise and save your battery as well. Digital trails just aren't as impressive as they are on film IMHO. Nice work though :)

Thanks for the comments and recommendations! I took time to reprocess the second image (my favourite of the two) using Lightroom 3b2 and Photoshop CS4, the original having only been processed in Lightroom 2 and CS4. I was quite impressed with the noise reduction capabilities, and I played with the foreground brightness and saturations a bit:

I prefer the first one myself. The trails behind the tree are a little off-putting I find. Still a cracking shot though.

Thanks for the continued feedback! Here is a 30second exposure version of the second shot, for those that liked it:
