Currently I'm using my wife's mac-mini with photo shop cs-3, and Bridge. But now shooting raw on the 5D the process time is forever. Instead of 2-4k for a new Mac does anyone use a HP or other IBM clone?

you don't need to spend 2k - 4k on a new Mac, I use a 15" Macbook pro 2.5ghz 4gb ram and it's all good. I don't plug the 5D straight to USB as the camera takes forever to xfer, I use a USB CF Card reader and it's 3x faster.

well, for price to performance, a new PC will generally be a better deal than a Mac, but since you have the software already, just get a nice iMac or something.

I've always used a PC with no issues.

I think the software would only be allowed to be installed on one machine at a time, so that may be a wash anyway.

get a 27" iMac and be happy for the rest of your life! ;)

I have a 24" and it will be replaced when the warranty runs out in almost 2 years!

I have the Adobe stuff installed on two macs - so long as you are using only one should be OK

Mac forever. Went to Dell portable to run a program native to PC's and went NUTS trying to navigate around it. The Mac OS is superior to anything and besides when you have an issue you get someone who speaks ENGLISH and understands your issues as opppsoed to someone in Bagladesh!

Apple has call centers in Indonesia and stuff... plus, I honestly have a easier time understanding people from over seas than some folks from the South, lol (Apple opened a call center in the south once... needless to say it was closed because no one could understand them, lol)

I have had to call Apple once in like 6 years, and had no problem understanding them. Oh and the problem?

It was user error!

Non Mac

I've been a PC since the days of he flickering green screen booting up to C:

A comparable pc is a fraction of the cost--and the few Apple products I've dealt with have all managed to pi$$ me off--everything seems to be way overcomplicated to protect their market share--and profit margin..

Just remember that WIndows can be used with hardly any issues when using the supplied Bootcamp software. I was in the battle of Mac or Pc and the MacPro won for me. Definitely costly, but being able to quickly use both operating systems on the same computer was well worth the cost. I need Windows to run many of my architecture programs, everything else is on my Mac.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with Apple customer support, they are very good. I am just saying even Apple has folks over seas. I've worked for Apple Tech support, I made friends with the agents I worked with. I know many Apple agents were good, some not so good. I was one of the best at my center. With all that said, I still use PCs most of the time =P

Yea Windows may be "cheaper," but how much does happiness, and longevity in a computer mean to you? Both areas Apple wins hands down IMO

I really wonder how many of the Mac fanboys and PC fanboys have spend any time actually using the other system?

I have Macbook Pro, Macbook, and I had an iMac. I also have several PCs.

Both systems are fine, but to be completely honest, PCs are just as good in pretty much every regard as Macs are. I find people who are in love with Macs are just use to the way Macs are.
